#NightWalkZine
Created during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, this is a collaborative project with Jack Low. All images were taken on our respective 'night walks' during permitted lockdown exercise when the streets were at their emptiest. These images were then posted to Instagram under the shared hashtag #nightwalkzine.
Personally, this vague structure to the days gave me something to focus on and look forward to. In lieu of regular routine, these small nocturnal ventures gave us space in all meanings of the word. We amassed 250+ images from which Instagram users are able to curate and share their own unique sequence, thus ordering a physical copy of their one-of-a-kind virtual 'night walk'. During lockdown and its associated social distancing measures we were all on our phones. This was our window into a collective experience. This project utilised that space as both a valuable way to digitally ‘explore’, and to foster a sense of tangible 'togetherness' in the exchange of printed pictures.
A selection of images from Edinburgh (Christina Webber) and Glasgow (Jack Low) follow.
The instructional graphic on how to order a zine, provided for context, was made by Jack Low,.
This work was printed on high-gloss aluminium and exhibited in a grid reminiscent of an instagram grid as part of the 2022 Street Level Open. You can view the exhibition virtually courtesy of Street Level here.
